TRAGIC BETROTHAL DAY
GIRL AND FIANCE’S MOTHER KILLED MOTOR-CAR ON PAVEMENT Times Cable. LONDON, Monday. A poignant tragedy is reported from Maidenhead. Miss Ivy Warner, who lives near that town, celebrated her 21st birthday today. Her parents arranged to give her a dance in the Warner Memorial Hall at Maidenhead on Saturday evening in honour of the occasion. As a surprise the parents had intended to announce the betrothal of Ivy’s sister, Betty, to Mr. Russell King, another resident of Maidenhead. Betty, her liance and his mother were walking arm in arm to the hall when a motor-car mounted the pavement, knocked down Betty and Mrs. Russell, and so injured them that both died shortly afterward in hospital. Mr. King was not hurt. The girl’s father, Mr. Warner, is a well-known brick manufacturer. He presented the hall to the townspeople.
