“DADDY!”
PATHOS AT TOWN HALL COLLAPSE OF WRESTLER’S WIFE Domestic pathos intervened at the wrestling match last evening when Mrs. Alley, wife of one of the wrestlers, fainted just as the bout was entering its most sensational phase. Among those who assisted her when she was carried from the ringside was , Mrs. Walker, wife of the victor in one of the most stirring contests ever seen in Auckland. Mrs. Alley and her small son have been present at all Alley's matches in Auckland. Last evening the terrific intensity of her husband’s struggle with Walker, coupled with the excessive heat in the hall, which was most inadequately ventilated for such an evening, no doubt contributed to her collapse. She was carried to one of the dressing-rooms and attended by ambulance men and doctors who were present. Mrs. Walker, too, left her seat at once, while Alley, jun., crying bitterly, was also taken away. This rather touching incident passed unnoticed by most of the crowd, which was absorbed in the tense and exciting moments ,of a keen encounter in which Walker was just beginning to get the upper hand. He had put Alley violently through the ropes once, and threw him heavily a little later. Mrs. Alley, perhaps fortunately, did not witness either of the severe falls secured at her husband’s expense. Nor did Mrs. Walker witness her husband's triumph. She was ministering to the other woman, though she returned just after the bout was over. ' when the crowd was swarming about i the ring. In her arms w-as young j Alley, still tearful, and crying, j “Daddy!"
