ELSIE WALKER CASE

Sir,— My dictionary tells me that the meaning of the word “clamour” is upro<tr, therefore it seems to me that “F.G,” in your issue of the 25th inst., is incorrect in applying the word to the public meeting held in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening last, for of my certain* knowledge the meeting was one of the best and most orderly meetings ever conducted in Auckland’s Town Hall. It may be that tho Minister of Justice thinks he has good reason for the stand he has taken, but whether his attitude is in the best interests of th® community is open to question. * °,f opinion that if a daughter “F.G.” was found under similar eff cumstances to those in which the unfortunate Elsie "Walker was discovered, he would desire that heaven and earth be shifted that justice might be doufr It is noticeable that “F.G.” had fiv! the courage to record his vote again** either of the resolutions on Wednesday evening, for the chairman declare 1 * both carried without dissentient. If upon reflection “F.G.” feels that ho missed an opportunity of publicly supporting his friend Mr. T. M. Wilford, and thinks it is his dutv to make amends, I have no doubt that it could be arranged for him to meet Mr. Kenneth Gordon, president of the Civic League, and publicly debate the subject, “Whether in the best interests of the community and justice the law should bo amended to enable the Elsie "Walker inquest to be reopened.” In the event of such a debate being arranged I know, sir, who my money will be on. w.J.c.
