FATE OF MAUI POMARE

LAST RUN TO NORFOLK IN DECEMBER | HINEMOA MAY GO BACK \ The fate of the Maui Pomare is still uncertain. It was stated this morning, on her arrival from Norfolk Island, that she would make her last run there in December. One passenger who spends a good deal of time on Norfolk Island said that the islanders were under the impression that when the Maui Pomare was taken off. the Hinemoa would take up the running again. This, however, cannot he confirmed officially and it is hardly likely that the present owners of the Hinemoa, who have had her reconstructed for holiday trips to the southern Sounds, would put her back on a commercial run. An official pronouncement regarding the future of the Maui Pomare is still to come from Parliament. She has been a costly vessel and on at least two occasions most of her perishable cargo has been ruined on return voyages from the islands. Engine faults also developed on one occasion. Tomorrow, as soon as her cargo is discharged, the Maui Pomare will go into dock for overhaul. Later she is to be painted. Very little fruit was brought from Norfolk by the vessel this morning. She carried a big cargo of early beans, some bananas and a quantity of mixed fruits.
