The Moonee Valley meeting was held yesterday in fine weather and attracted a record attendance. The victory registered by Nightmarch in the race for the W. S. Cox Plate was received with great enthusiasm and the New Zealand horse was accorded an ovation on returning to the enclosure. In the decision of the Moonee Valley Cup the Xew Zealand gelding Second Wind ran second. The principal events resulted as follow: W. S. In a brilliant finish Nightmarch just (prevailed by half a neck, with Highland two lengths in front of Mollison. Time, MOONEE VALLEY CUP ! Of £2,000 (including cup valued at £200); 1 mile 3?s furlongs. PRINCE VIOL (Lyons and Cooper), ch g, syrs, by Violoncello —Princess Vimy, 8.1, Medhurst 1 ! SECOND WIND (E. Lee Steere), ch g, 4yrs, 8.12, W. Duncan 2 ! SHADOW KING (F. E. Shillabeer), b i g, 4yrs. 7.12, O’Brien 3 i Twelve started, including Catkin. When ! the field settled down Claronga and Harbinger were in the lead from Second Wind, Prince Viol and Shadow King. Turning into the straight Shadow King and Prince Viol were on terms, when the latter forged ahead, but was challenged by Second Wind, but he was unable to make any impression on the leader, and Prince Viol won handsomely by two lengths, with Shadow' King two lengths away third. Demost and Kidaides finished in the ruck, while Catkin was last. Time, 2.295. .
