Labour's Outing at the Domain

SPORTS AFTERNOON M.P’S IN ATTENDANCE An important feature of Labour Day celebrations today was the annual sports meeting, organised by the Trades Hall trustees, at the Domain. After heavy rain in the early morning. the weather broke fine, with bright sunshine, thus assuring the success of the festival, which is essentially regarded as Labour’s outing for women and children. The heavy downpour mad© the tracks a trifle heavy for th© running and cycling events, though conditions improved later in the afternoon under the influence of a strong breeze. The flat and cycling races, which were conducted by officials of the Auckland Amateur Athletic Centre, attracted strong fields. Public attention during the morning was focussed principally upon the national dancing, in which there were 102 competitors in the 18 events. The Domain presented an animated scene during th© afternoon, a crowd numbering several thousands watching the sports and races and novelty events arranged for the children. Interested spectators at the sports were Mr. IT. E. Holland, M.P., Leader , of th© Labour Party, and Labour members of th© Auckland electorates— Messrs. W. J.. .Jordan. H. G. R. Mason, W. E.
