RECORD OVERSEAS MAIL
THREE SHIPS AT WELLINGTON Frcss Association WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Owing to the arrival of three oversea liners within a few hours of one another, the postal authorities were called upon today to handle what is said to b© a record quantity of mail for one day at Wellington. The total quantity of inward oversea mail dealt with was 5,-96 bags and hampers. The first vessel to arrive was the Maheno, from Sydney, with 1,480 bags and hampers, comprising an English mail and Eastern and Austi*alian mails. This was expeditiously handled. The Tahiti,- which arrived in the stream from San Francisco at 2 p.m., and berthed before four o’clock, brought a very heavy English and American mail, comprising 2,700 bags and hampers. Close behind the Tahiti came the Corinthic, from Southampton, with 78 bags of speciallyaddressed letters and a large parcels mail, consisting of 3,038 bags and hampers, a total of 1.116 packages. Of the total of 5,296 packages of oversea mail, approximately 2,000 were for Wellington, and the whole of this was opened and sorted today. In addition all the Southern portion of the three mails and most of that for dispatch Northward was sent away tonight.
