TWO MEN CHARGED
THEFT ATTEMPT ALLEGED ' REMANDED TO AUCKLAND Two men who were charged in the Oneliunga Police Court this morning i before Mr. J. E. Powell, J.P., with at- ! tempt to steal, were ordered to appear on October 31 in the Auckland Magistrate’s Court. The men were Claude Paget, aged 62, and Edward Richard Black, aged 47. Bail was allowed in £‘loo and one surety of £IOO each. The offence alleged concerned eight water meters and a quantity of ironwork, valued at I £7, the property of the Manukau County Council. Sergeant Cruickshank. representing the police, told the Bench that the number plate of the motor-car alleged to have been used to carry the property ' away had been turned upside down. Black had explained that it was done as a joke by one of liis children and he did not know of it until last evening. The ironwork was part of a stonecrusher at Mangers which had been dismantled for repairs. 1 _
