PATENT CURES FOR STOCK
DOMINION FARMERS ASK FOR PROTECTION COSTLY “QUACK NOSTRUMS” Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. Th# Dominion Executive of the Partners’ Union met today. The Director-General of .Agriculture, Dr. C. J. Reakes, addressed the gathering, stjtpniarising the steps taken by the Lire Stock Division in investigating tho cause of sterility in cows and stressing particularly the advances made by research workers. Mr. Campbell, of Manawatu. asked it something could be done by the department to guide farmers in the use of many medicines on the market, and Mr. W. J. Poison said the farmers were paying ridiculous prices for quack nostrums, some of which ought to be poured down drains. The farmers were not adequately protected. Dr.-Reakes replied that the department was well aware of the problems confronting farmers in the use of patent medicines, but it was difficult to know how far it was legally possible to go. Mr. W. M. Siugieton. Director of the Dairy Division, spoke in reference to his recent visit to the United Kingdom.
