Obituary

MR. R. APPLEBY The death of Mr. Richard Appleby occurred at Fencourt, Cambridge, yesterday, at the age of 77 years. He was a highly respected resident of Cambridge for a .great number of years. He is survived by his widow, three daughters and one son. MR. FRANK KEYTE The death of a well-known resident of Hamilton, Mr. Frank Iveyte, has occurred at the age of 53. Air. Iveyte saw service during the Great War in Egypt and at the close of hostilities was invalided home. I-le took up a soldiers’ section at To Miro, Cambridge, being one of the first settlers on the block. Mr. Iveyte is survived by his wife and nine children. MR. D. MILLIGAN The death has occurred in Wanganui of Mr. D. Milligan, for the last two years general secretary of the Wanganui Y.M.C.A., as the result of internal injuries received while playing games six weeks ago. Mr. Milligan, who was trained in Y.M.C.A. work in the United States, was, before coming to Wanganui, engaged in research work at the Cawthron Institute and spent much time on Great Barrier Island and in North Auckland. MRS. B. E. WOODWARD The death occurred at the home of her son, Mr. A. A. Woodward, Hamilton, yesterday, of Mrs. B. E. Woodward, at the age of 81. Mrs. Woodward was the daughter of the late Mr. John Higginson, of Pirongia, and was born in Stoney Stanton, Leicester, England. She came to New Zealand in the ship Owen Glendower in 1863, and was married in 186 S to the late Mr. Frank Woodward, formerly manager of the National Bank of New Zealand at Invercargill. Mrs. Woodward is survived by five sons and three daughters.

MRS. M. S. TAYLOR An old identity and one of the best known, residents In South Auckland, Mrs. Miranda Sarah Taylor, wife of Mr. James Taylor, of “Bardowie,” Cambridge, died last night after an Illness extending over three years. Mrs. Taylor was born at Tonga, being - the elder daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. John Whewell. She spent her early years in Melbourne, later coming to k’ew Zealand. She married in Auckland in 1881 and went to Cambridge the same year with her husband to take up the "ell-ltnown “Bardowie” Estate, Cambridge, where she had resided ever since. Mrs. Taylor was held in the highest respect by all her acquaintances. In her younger days she took a prominent part in all social activities in the Waikato, especially in the Cambridge district, and was a prominent member of the Presbyterian Church. She is survived by an adult family, Messrs. Innes Taylor, (Cambridge), J. Colin Taylor (Hamilton), and Mesdames C. Meredith (Cambridge), Blennerhassett, Batchelor, Miss Myra Taylor (Cambridge), and Mrs. Prank Macky (Auckland). The funeral will be at Cambridge tomorrow. *

MR. A. S. MACKINNON Farmer and sportsman, Mr. Alexander Stewart MacKinnon died at his home at Ohinewai on Monday. Me was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Angus MacKinnon, of Riverdale Estate, Ohinewai West. Mr. MacKinnon, who was one of the most highlyrespected men in the district, took over a portion of his father’s estate of 1.134 acres with his brothers, Angus and John. Mr. MacKinnon married Miss Holden, the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Holden, of Clevedon, and he leaves a family of five girls and two boys. One sister lives at Mount Eden and there are three brothers, Donald (Waikokowai), John Malcolm (Karaka-Runciman) and Angus (Ohinewai). The funeral took place at Kimihia Cemetery yesterday afternoon, the pall-bearers being Messrs. Alex, and J. M. MacKinnon and Messrs. _ Holden. A service was held at the Knox Presbyterian Church, Huntly, prior to the long cortege leaving for Kimihia. The tributes to Mr. MacKinnon were many and represented all classes of the community, including the Maoris, who attended to pav their last respects to a man who was always their friend. MR. JOHN JOHNS An Auckland pioneer' farmer, Mr. John Johns, died at his home in Pine Street, Mopnt Eden, yesterday, at the age of 95. Born in “West Putford, Devonshire, Mr. Johns farmed there for some time before coming to Mew Zealand in the ship Jane Gifford in 1566, and was employed as manager on a farm at Penrose, commencing in his own interests three years later at Mangere, where he lived for 20 years. He also worked a farm at Pukekohe and collected a fine herd of Jerseys, taking many prizes for cows and horses at the Franklin Show, of which he was a vice-president for many years. After working a small holding at Te Awamutu he retired and lived in retirement in Auckland. Mr. and Mrs Johns celebrated their golden weddinJr m 1920. Mr. Johns is survived by his wife, wiio is SO years of age, and nine children of a family of 12, Mr. J. W. Johns of Pukekohe: Mr. P. w. Johns, of W liangarei: Mr. A. E. Johns of Eureka: Mr. V. R. Johns and Mr ’v C Johns, of Auckland: Mrs. R. T. Wright, of Buckland: Mrs. H Me Adam of Mount Eden: Mrs. H. Curd.'of Pukekohe: and Mrs. W. Melville, of Te Awaramu.
