Despite the fact that a number of roads in the Central King Country are in urgent need of completion, comparatively few men are reported as having been engaged on such work during recent weeks. However, the arrival of several batches of unemployed from the North has livened things up a good deal, as several parties of 50 or more have been sent out to various localities. Fifty men from Auckland were sent to a point on the Te Kuiti-Bulls main highway, and a greatly increased number has been settled at the Waitonga camp, in the Ohura district. In this case the men are engaged on improving the main road to the coast, which will undoubtedly become an important route in the near future. Up to the present it is not possible to gain any information as to the exact number of men engaged by the Public Works Department, and nothing is available for publication regarding work allotted for the unemployed in the King Country.
