DOCTOR FOR TRIAL

SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS BY GIRL INDECENT PHOTOGRAPHS Pleading not guilty to a charge resulting from allegations made against him by a young woman patient, Balder Singh Share, a medical practitioner, aged 48, was committed for trial at the Supreme Court after evidence had been heard against him at the Police Court yesterday. Share, represented by Mr. Wallace, was charged with indecently assaulting a woman at Auckland on September 26. According to complainant, she bad visited the accused to have an injured thumb dressed. He had suggested a thorough examination, remarking that she appeared to be run down. It was during the examination, witness alleged, that the doctor had acted improperly toward her. Before leaving the consulting-room, accused had shown her a number of photographs which witness identified from among those produced in court. Dr. C. H. Tewsley, police surgeon, gave it as his opinion that some of the actions of accused, as detailed by witness, were unusual and unnecessary. Denial of any improper action had been made by the doctor in an interview, said Detective-Sergeant Kelly. The man had also denied showing the girl indecent photographs. Asked how complainant could know that the photographs were In his possession, accused had suggested that someone “was trying to put ’it across him,” mentioning the name of another doctor. He had later admitted that the other doctor mentioned was not aware that he had the photographs. The detective-sergeant added that when accused was arrested on October 14 he said: —“It is a serious charge. It is hard when a slip of a girl can make a charge against a doctor. It is untrue, but I will admit that some very bad photographs were found. I have been up against it for some time. If I sell my home and leave the country, will it make any difference? This will kill my wife and son.”

Bail was allowed by Mr. F. K. Hunt S.M., in two sureties, each of £250.
