Turner has returned to Christchurch. She has been spending a holiday in Auckland. Miss Meredith, of “Grasmere,” Mt. ANNUAL DANCE BOWLING CLUB FUNCTION PATRIOTIC DECORATIONS The Te Puke Bowling- Club held its annual ball .in the Alliance Theatre last week, the floor being crowded with dancers. KITCHEN AFTERNOON WAIUKU BRIDE-ELECT HONOURED A very pleasant afternoon was spent at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Eddy, of Waiuku, on Saturday, when several friends gave a kitchen afternoon in honour, of Miss L. Chalmers, who is shortly to be married. In an appropriate speech, Mrs. Eddy asked Miss Chalmers to accept a wellfilled clothes basket of useful kitchen articles, with the best wishes of her many firends. Miss L,. Eddy also presented the guest with a handsome bouquet. Miss Chalmers returnd thanks for the kindness extended to her. 1 Airing the afternoon several competitions created considerable interest, and a very dainty tea was handed round. On Thursday Miss Chalmers was also the recipient of a splendid bronze bowl from the members of the Waiuku Presbyterian Church, the presentation being made by the president of the Indies’ Guild, Mrs. W. L. West, who eulogised the good services of Miss Chalmers in church matters. Miss Chalmers briefly thanked the members for their kindness.
Sacred Heart Old Boys Hold Annual Dance
Click Clack is Scene of Happy Gathering MUSIC AND COLOUR The annual dance of the Sacred Heart College Old Boys’ Association was held in the Click Clack Cabaret last evening, when a delightful time was spent by all present. EXCELLENT music was provided by -*- J the cabaret orchestra, which is known for its bright and pleasing dance numbers. The frocks were charming and colourful, the effect being enhanced by the cabaret decorations. COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT Aliss E. Brodie had on lilac french organdie with flared skirt and satin bow. Aliss AI. Clarke was wearing black lace over pink crepe de chine. Aliss P. Flynn chose a frock of beige georgette embossed in rose chenille. Aliss P. Foley had on mauve lame \Vith front panel of lemon. Miss E. Sinclair’s frock was of emerald green georgette beaded in silver. Aliss AI. Wright chose leaf green sprigged taffeta and net with transparent hem. Among others present were: Airs. C. H. Drysdale, wearing black georgette beaded in silver, with black beige coat. Airs. H. Wright’s gown was of rose georgette with deep liem of ring velvet to tone. Airs. R. Hunt had on rose pink crepe de chine and embroidered lace. Airs. Learning chose sunset taffeta with two-tiered skirt. Airs. Leonard Cronin was frocked in ivory mariette and shadow lace, with shoulder spray of scarlet poppies. Airs. Cotter was in a rose pink georgette frock with frilled skirt. Mrs. Kevin's gown was of flame georgette clipping in graceful flares to the ankles. Aliss Wickes had on a black sequined frock with red flowers embroidered on the skirt. Miss Drysdale chose salmon pink taffeta and gold lace, •vi.th petalled hem. Aliss Moureen Abbott had on silver lame and floral georgette. Aliss Aloya Hawkins was wearing buttercup taffeta with uneven hem. Airs. Fraser Smith was in honeycoloured chenille embossed georgette. Aliss Audrey Gray was in a frock of almond green crepe de chine and geor-
gette. Aliss Smith wore reseda green lame and georgette, with silver lace hem. Miss Roman Brower had on apricot velvet, with large hip bow on one side. IN IVORY TAFFETA Aliss Ola Baster was in ivory taffeta with flounced skirt. Aliss Bell Heaton chose primrose georgette, dipping at back. Aliss L. Heaton was in gentian blue taffeta and tiered georgette. Aliss B. Willett’s powder-blue frock had a deeply petalled hem. Aliss R. Williams was in cornflower blue georgette. Aliss Elva AlacDonald chose eidelwiss blue georgette, with flounced, skirt. Aliss Moira Punch had on rose satin beaute with uneven hemline. Aliss Florence Johanssen chose canary satin, ankle-length. Aliss Ray, Alurphy’s frock was of palest buttercup georgette embossed in silver. Aliss Kathleen Wright wore shell-pink petalled chiffon. Aliss Aliri Bragato had on a smart gown of black Chantilly lace. Aliss K. Lyons was in black georgette embossed in chenille. Aliss L. Trigg wore ivory petalled ninon over palest pink. Aliss G. Scott chose wine red georgette, prettily pin-tucked. Aliss Brown had on pillar-box red lace over crepe de chine. Aliss Thelma Handing was wearing phlox pink georgette, with draped skirt. Aliss Lucy Spellman was in briar rose georgette, with deep hem of velvet. Aliss Ailsa Lewis wore a charming gown of cameo satin and tulle, applique d with flowers. Aliss E. Young’s gown was of almond green satin, with petalled skirt. Aliss R. Young wore flame satin and gold lace. Aliss Leaning was wearing printemps green georgette with diamente relief. Aliss Brewer chose a frock of nile green satin dipping unevenly at the back. Aliss 2ST. Brodie chose sunset french organdie, with tiered skirt dipping at back, and large satin bow. Airs. Alolloy was in black panne velvet, with ivory shawl. Aliss L. Foley was in lemon georgette embroidered in ribbon circles. Miss T. Foley was wearing a frock of lemon taffeta. Aliss Tallis chose a pink georgette frock. Aliss R. Alolloy wore leaf green georgette with tiered skirt bound in gold. Aliss D. Blutcher bad on powder blue net embroidered in silver, scalloped hem. Aliss Pat Hunt was in a frock of lemon satin with lace over skirt, and coatee. Aliss L. Maher wove orchid mauve taffeta and ankle-length skirt of lace to tone. Miss Bettina Edwards wore black panne velvet dipping at side, rose spray on shoulder. Aliss C. Cunningham was in black velvet, with draperies. Aliss Kalaugher chose green crepe de chine.
BAZAAR FOR SCHOOL SUCCESSFUL AFTERNOON AT TAKANINI A bazaar was held In the Parish Hall, Takanini, on Saturday, in aid of the school funds. In a few words. Air. Jones, chairman of the school committee, outlined the objective for which the bazaar was being held. Pie then called upon Air. McLennan to officially open the function. Great credit is due to Mrs. Clayton and the women’s committee for the manner in which the work was carried out. The committee will benefit to the extent of about £2O. NELSON DAY CELEBRATED NAVY LEAGUE ENTERTAINED Women members associated with the executive of the Navy League were the guests of Airs. C. H. T. Palmer, wife of the president, at morning tea at the Lyceum Club. yesterday. The gathering was arranged to celebrate Nelson Day. Among those present were:—Airs. John Alexander, wife of the patron; Mrs. Gallaugheiv president of the women's branch; and Aliss Wallace, hon. secretary; Airs. Cleland. president of the Devonport branch; Airs. N. Clover, Airs. Hull. Airs. Connors, wife of the chairman; Alesdnmes Ifwerson, of the girls’ branch; C. H. Palmer. L. Thompson, Streater, Miss Herrold and Aliss Statham.
At the conclusion of the function Aliss Statham returned thanks to Airs. Palmer for the most enjoyable time which had been spent.
