“THE GLORIOUS GIANNINI”

CONCERT TONIGHT AT TOWN HALL This evening at the Town Hall, the world-famous young dramatic soprano, Dusolina Giannini, will make her bow to a New Zealand audience. Much is expected of this sensational singer, who has in the space of years won an unrivalled position in the musical estimation of European and American audiences. Judging by the glowing reports from Sydney ancl Melbourne, Signor - ina Giannini will prove to be the best equipped singer that New Zealand has had the good fortune to hear for many a long year, for, in the words of the Melbourne “Herald” musical critic, “In all moods, whether dramatic or lyric, whether happy, sombre, ar stormy, this singer gives us art at its highest standards.” Although she is world-famous for her performance in “Aida,” “La Tosca,” and other equally dramatic grand opera roles, Dusolina Giannini has also won her spurs as the ideal lieder and folksong artist.

Two convincing tributes to her success in lieder were recently paid by such wide-apart centres as Berlin and Sydney. At the Schubert centenary festival, in the former city last year, Dusolina Giannini was selected as soloist, as she was regarded as the ideal interpreter of Schubert; and in Sydney a few weeks ago the most musical citizens including the principal pianoforte and singing teachers at the eonservatorium the Japanese Consul, and prominent members of musical associations, offered a guarantee of £3OO for a special programme of classics.

This was the first occasion that any visiting artist has received such a compliment from Sydney, and the happiest feature of the experiment was that the guarantors had not to pay up one penny, as the receipts for this classic concert exceeded the £3OO.

The box plans for tonight’s and Thursday’s concerts are at Lewis Eady, Ltd., and day sale tickets may be obtained at Coleman’s, tobacconist, H.M. Arcade.
