PLANTING IN PARKS AND STREETS NURSERYMAN’S PRAISE . Y 0 1? oi tlle Policy of beautification .of parks, reserves and streets, adopted by Auckland local oodles, was expressed by Mr. V. C. Davies, Dominion president of the Horticultural Trades’ Association, of I® Plymouth, addressing Auckland horticulturists last evening. Commenting on the development in planting flowering shrubs and native trees m suburban streets, Mr. Davies singled out Mount Albert for its magnificent display of rhododendron virginalis. He also paid a splendid tribute to the ranunculi flowering in Albert Park, declaring them to be the Dest he had seen in his life. The flowers were not only the best variety, but were perfect in form, he said. The park had improved immensely and credit responsible deserved the utmost

The eradication of weeds on Rangi--I°, , Island , being undertaken bv the Auckland Institute, was commended by Mr. Davies. He advised that anv tiees or shrubs planted should be of bfjsin. The vegetation peculiar . e island should be encouraged. A further recommendation made bv Mr. Davies was that Maori or Latin names, as well as common names should be attached to all flowers and shrubs planted in parks, reserves • streets. The public would thus be taught to plant trees most suitable to a Particular locality.
