BRICK AREA DECLARED ONEHUNGA COUNCIL’S MOVE Progress In the Te Papapa district is reflected in the rapid development ot a business centre at the junction of Captain Spring’s Road and Church Street. The establishment of a brick area was decided upon last evening by the Onehunga Borough Council. Many of the buildings are of wood and the locality is a considerable distance from a fire station, the council c , T) l e ai 'ea is to extend from Grotto Street to 100 yards south of Church Street along Captain Spring’s Road, and from Malvern Road to the railway crossing in Church Street. Gn account of the report that St. John s Lake had been drained dry, the town clerk was instructed to enter the council’s protest against the action of the Waiatarua Drainage' Board. It is claimed that the Onehunga springs will be affected.
ahe Auckland Harbour Board Is to be asked for permission to allow the council to extend the bathing sheds on the beach at the foot of Norman’s Hill. In reply to the council’s request for duplication of the telephone box at the Post Office, the PostmasterGeneral wrote stating: the request could not be granted as the business at the box did not warrant additional facilities. He agreed, however, to establish a cabinet at tho junction of Mount Smart Road and Victoria Street. Two cricket clubs were granted playing grounds on the recreation reserve, the Mayor remarking that there iv ere ample areas on the reserve available for cricket. The medical officer of health reported that the periodical bacteriological examination of the borough’s water supply had proved satisfactory.
