WRESTLERS FIT
VANCE “FEELS LIKE A MILLION DOLLARS!” EKLUND CONFIDENT For the second time within a fortnight, Clarence Eklund, light-heavy-weight champion of the world, will defend his title in the Town Hall this evening against “Farmer” Vance, light heavy-weight champion Canada, who will be making his second bid for the championship. The P met last Monday week, when Eklund won after Vance had thrown away his chance of winning by over-eager-ness. Yesterday Vance reported himself to bo in excellent condition. “I am m better shape than last time, and I feel liko a million dollars. I intend to keep cool and take my time.” Eklund has been training hard ana Vance will find him harder to defeat than before, because the champion now has some knowledge of the Farmer’s style and skill. Eklund means to leave nothing to chance, a n . d is confident that he can retain his title. This contest should be a making one for New Zealand. The first championship contest marked a milestone in the wrestling records or the Dominion, and the second one appears to be even more noteworthy. It is practically useless trying to predict who will win, for if Vance can keep cool, instead of jumping tempestuously into the fray, he will be a hard man to defeat, for he has wrestling skill well above the ordinary. On the other hand. Eklund has not been wrestling for 20 years without getting out of some tight corners, an he does not think that the obstaci in the shape of Vance will be unsurmountable. The booking for the contest is e - " ceptionally heavy, and it seems unlikely that there ’will be any empty seats in the hall.
