FEW BAD DEBTS
POSITION OF WAITEMATA POWER BOARD FARMERS PAY WELL An extremely small percentage of bad debts was disclosed in the treasurer’s report thi« morning at a meeting of the Waitemata Power Board, when debts amounting to £l6O were written off. This represents only onethlrd per cent of the yearly total of receipts. “One of the biggest bugbears is the person who changes his name as often « he changes his tenancy,’* said the report. "Economic conditions also prevent many of the poorer consumers from paying even small amounts. E v«ry endeavour has been made to collet the accounts owing through the Board’s solicitors and through debt collectors, without result.” Tho secretary, Mr. A. Main, pointed out that the amount involved through bad debts in connection with the sale of power was only CHS, spread over *0 accounts, some of which have been overdue sinco 1926. There are no b&d debts in Waitemata county and few in Birkenhead and Helensville. “The stationary population is cerfainly the best customer, commented Mr. a. E. Greenslade, Outstanding sundry debtors for extra service and maintenance now total £33 9s 9d. whereas two years ago the total was £3.128. The Board has made 448 new connections during the past six months and connected an additional 776 li.p. to the power system. The tradingdepartment sold 90 stoves and 147 during that period.
