GOLF

INTER-CLUB MATCH PLAY ON SATURDAY Golf was played on Saturday in ideal weather. The chief inter-club fixture was the match between Maungakiekie and Auckland, which was played at Middlemore, and which resulted in a win for Auckland by 16 games to 7, one being squared. These clubs have, since 1913, played 19 inter-club matches, 14 of which have been won by Auckland, three by Maungakiekie, and two of which, were drawn. Maungakiekie won the first match this season.

F. Ewen, 6 and 5; A. D. Stedman beat F. I. Dawson, 4 and 3. PLAY AT ONE TREE HILL Members of the Maungakiekie Golf Club took part in a medal handicap at One Tree Hill. FOURSOME AT GLENDOWIE The members of the Glendowie Ladles’ Golf Club played a medal foursome match on Saturday and the following players tied for the prize:—Miss U. English and Miss Colebrook, Miss Maden and Mrs. Rennie and Mrs. Montgomery and Miss R. Wilson. The play-off was won by Miss Maden and Mrs. Rennie. The last L.G.U. match resulted in a tie between Miss O. English and Miss R. Wilson and the play-off was won by Miss R. Wilson. The flag match for Mrs. Hayes’s prize was won by Mrs. M. H. Miller, who carried the flag to-the 19th green. AKARANA CLUB In the final of the Akarana Golf Club Championship, played during tire week-end, B. J. Smith, jun., defeated G. M. Brown, 12 up and 11 to play. Following are the results of the Canadian foursomes bogey competition played on Saturday afternoon:—F. Hazelden and A. E. Young (9), 4 up; J. M. Coltman and G. M. Brown (7), 4 up; B. J. Smith and W. R. Swanson (6), 3 up; C. Bailey and W. R. Thomson (10), 1 up; T. Hetet and S. Mcßobie (13), all square. EVERSLIE CLUB From Our Own Correspondent PAPAKURA, Today. Th© official closing of the Everslie Golf Club took place on Saturday afternoon in perfect weather. Visitors were present from the Pupuke, Akarana, Waitemata and Pukekohe Golf Clubs. In the morning the women played a long drive, and an approaching and putting competition, which was won by Miss F. Callis (long drive), and Miss M. Smith (approaching and putting). In the afternoon mixed foursomes were played over 18 holes, and resulted in a win for Miss P. CsLllis and Mr. Agmen Smith, with 3, jiet score of 71. The runners-up were Miss M. O’Neill and Mr. J. Rhind.

The captain, Mr. S. D. Rice, said they all regretted the season had come to a close. The club wa? somewhat slow in settling down, but had won most of the matches in the latter half of the season. The club was particularly fortunate in possessing a patron of the calibre of Mr. Balfour Irvine, who had the interest of the club at heart. He had also been a wonderfully generous patron. The captain said he much regretted the fact that owing to the high standard of play the whole of the members of the club were not able to participate in the distribution of prizes. The patron, Mr. Balfour Irvine, congratulated the club on its very successful season. The ladies* club championship was won by Miss R. Arbuckle: runner-up. Mrs. D. Bilkey. Junior championship won outright each year, was won by Miss B. Agmen Smith; runner-up, Miss M. O’Neill. Airs. Agmen Smith’s trophy was won by Mrs. E. J. Busing. Mrs. R. H. Lever’s trophy (captain), was won by Aliss F. Callis. Airs. E. J. Busing’s trophy was won by Aliss AI. O’Neill. The six monthly medal rounds were won by Aliss AI. Smith. Airs. D. Bilkey, Aliss R. Arbuckle (2), Airs. V. Goddard. Aliss AI. O’Neill. The bronze medal was won by Miss R. Arbuckle. Alen’s championship, Air. F. Hogan: runner-up. Air. J. Dykes. Junior championship. Air. J. C. Hobson; runner-up, Mr. Ivor O’Neill: Kohn Cup, Air. F. Hogan: runner-up, Air. C. Wardell; Lovegrove Shield, Air. H. M. Freeman. Gold medal, Mr. H. AI. Freeman. Trophies presented by Walker and Hall for Canadian foursomes were won by Aliss B. Agmen Smith and Air. R. O'Neill. An open tournament is to be played next Saturday and Alondaj*, October 26 and 28. A dainty afternoon tea was served in the clubhouse by the women members.
