FAREWELL TO ARMY HEADS

COMMISSIONER AND MRS. HAY Leaving tomorrow for Canada, to take over the Eastern Canada command, Commissioner J. Hay and Mrs! Hay, who have been in charge of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, were bade farewell by a representative assemblage in the Congress Hall yesterday. The function was presided over by the Mayor, Mr. George Baildon, with whom were associated Messrs. J. A. C. Allum, chairman of the Transport Board, city councillors, and representatives of the churches. Reference was made by the Mayor to the advancement of the Army during Commissioner and Mrs. Hay’s term, during which 16 new corps had been formed, attendances had increased 10 per cent., and liabilities on the Army’s properties had been reduced by £IB,OOO. He congratulated the departing officers upon their appointment, which was a considerable loss to the New Zealand organisation. Colonel L. Taylor, chief secretary, joined in paying tribute to the work of Commissioner and Mrs. Hay. In reply, Commissioner Hay referred to the Army’s various activities. and expressed appreciation of the public support of the movement, and assistance given by ministers of the different churches. A vote of thanks was accorded Commissioner Hay for the great service he had rendered during his term of office in the Dominion. On the motion of Mr. J. A. C. Allum, seconded by the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, Minister of Health. The Minister declared that any Government would readily admit its indebtedness to the Salvation Army in civic administration. The motion was carried amid applause and cheers. HOME MISSION SUNDAY NORTHCOTE METHODISTS “Home Mission Day*' was held at the Northcote Methodist Church yesterday, when the collections were given to the Home and Inland Mission Fund. The morning service was conducted by the Rev. T. R. B. Woolloxall, of Kingsland. The choir gave the anthem “Wait Upon the Lord.” At the evening service the preacher was student E. C. LeadlejL The choir sang the anthem “How Beautiful.”

The Sunday school anniversary will be held next Sunday.
