The legislation giving local bodies more power in the development of aviation is now' on the Statute Book, the Local Authorities Empowering (Aviation Encouragement) Bill having been put through all stages by the Legislative Council. Another new clause gives special authority for the Gisborne Borough Council, the Cook County Council, and the Waikohu County Council, to raise a joint special loan not exceeding £5,000 for the purpose of establishing an airdrome in the same way as the larger centres are allowed to do. A poll of the ratepayers will not be necessary. A minor amendment to the Bill is the defining of an airdrome to include a landing-place for aircraft, whether or not such landingplace has any buildings or other equipment on it. “I do not think these in any way affect the Bill adversw* said the Minister of Defence, the Lott.
