SECOND TILT

V ance v. Lklund On Monday MUCH INTEREST IN MATCH More interest is being displayed in ; the wrestling match between "Farmer” j \ ance and Clarence Eklund on Mon- ! day evening, when the former will 1 endeavour to wrest the light-heavy-weight championship of the world from the holder, than in any other match which has been staged this season. Perhaps it is the fact that Vance had nearly won the title only to lose by his impetuosity that is causing such keen interest to be taken, or perhaps it is the effect of the Canadian champion’s sensational challenge. Vance has guaranteed Eklund £4OO, win, lose or draw, depositing £IOO with the New' Zealand Wrestling Association, w ith the promise to pay another £3OO out of the house receipts. Whether the Town Hail is crowded or whether there are only the proverbial man and dog present, the champion will collect , Ins £4UO, Vance taking the whole of the receipts except for expenses. If j the challenger is to come out on the right side of the debit balance there will have to be a large crowd present, and as far as this is concerned there appears to be no doubt that there will be very few vacant chairs. Whether he wins or Joses Vance will receive little in the way of monetary j reward, but it is not money that he i hopes to gain, but the title. He is so j sure that he can defeat Eklund that he j has willingly put up his money to get < another chance and if it comes his way J lie will get his reward. Eklund has shown himself a true j sportsman in agreeing to defend his title against the eager Vance for the second time in a fortnight. The champion Avon his title in the first place by wrestling and defeating all the claimants for the championship. Later | he lost the title, but regained it last year and has not since been defeated at the championship weight limit. The champion Avas impressed with Vance’s performance against him on the first occasion they met, and he has left nothing to chance in getting into good condition. He realises that if he is to retain his title he Avill have to Avrestle all he knows and he is not keen to be an ex-world's champion.

There is one thing certain. That, is that Vance will have to keep cool if he is to win. Whichever man wins, a great contest is in store for Auckland wrestling fans. Those who saw the last contest between the pair are enthusiastic I and the reports and broadcast of the affair have aroused interest in many who intend to make it their first wrestling match. The following amateur bouts will be staged:—Williamson v. Brewer, Paget v. Peckenham. Pickering v. McKay. Holden v. McConachy, Anderson v. Webb, Pearce v. Clark. AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE HELD IN AUCKLAND The New Zealand Wrestling Association has decided to stage the 3 929 New Zealand amateur wrestling championships in Auckland on or about November 11. This will close the wrestling season in Auckland. The championships will be held in classes ranging from feather-weights

to heavyweights, and entries from anywhere in New Zealand aa'Ul be received. Particulars can be obtained from the secretary, P.O. Box 465.
