SHOTS AT EMBASSY
SENSATIONAL SCENES AT BRUSSELS ANGER AGAINST ITALY Australian aud N.Z. Press Association Reed. 3.30 p.m. BRUSSELS, Friday. A sensation has been caused by the firing of shots in the direction of the Italian Embassy this evening. Stones wfre hurled at the building, several falling In the room where the Ambassador was sitting. Crowds rushed to the scene. During the excitement several men tried to gain access to the Embassy, and the police had to discharge their revolvers over the heads of the people in order to clear the approaches, which are now heavily guarded. The “Daily Chronicle’s” correspondent says the outrage is believed to be connected with a protest against the forthcoming official announcement of the engagement of the Italian Crown Prince and a Belgian Princess. Several suspects have been detained. Reed. 4 p.m. * The attackers of the Italian Embassy shouted “Down with Italy!” and “Down with Fascism!” It is now believed they were demonstrating against the execution of their countryman, Gortan, at Pola.
