Dilworth Institute Buys Land at Wiri
AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE BIG DEAL FINALISED With a view to the establishment of an agricultural school and college, of the high school type, the Dilworth Trust has purchased an area of approximately 126 acres on the Great South Road, Wiri. The area includes the properties of Messrs. Adlum, D. Aitkenhead, Johnstone, and Martin, and Mrs. Grundy, adjacent to the Wiri Bridge and Wiri Anglican Church. The prices paid for the land are said to range from £BO to £l5O an acre. Road formation and tree-planting will be undertaken next winter, and the erection of accommodation buildings will commence the following spring. It is understood that arrangements will be made to house 200 students. The deal, which was negotiated through Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd., is expected to have a marked effect on property values in the locality. Such a purchase has been mooted for the past five years, during which the Dilworth Trust has been inquiring for a suitable site.
