RADIO LICENCE FIGURES

NEARLY 50,000 ISSUED (From Our Resident Reporter) WELLINGTON. Today. In the course of an address delivered from his room in Parliament Buildings and which was broadcast at the opening of the new Dunedin broadcasting station on Wednesday evening, the Postmaster-General, the Hon. J. B. Donald, said that it was expected by the end of March. 50,000 radio licences would have been issued. The present total is 47,442, of these. 15,519 having been . issued in Auckland, 19.480 in Wellington, 8,435 in Canterbury, and 4,008 in Otago. The Minister said he was looking forward to the time when he would be able to reduce the licence fees. The more licences that were taken out the sooner he would be able to make a reduction.
