WOMAN RELEASED
MRS. MORT MAY BE SENT TO NEW ZEALAND NINE YEARS IN PRISON Australian and N.Z. Press Association Reed. 9.50 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. Mrs. Dorothy Mort was released from Long Bay Gaol, after having served nine years’ imprisonment for shooting Dr. Claude Tozer at her home at Killara. It is understood that plans are being made to send her either to America or New Zealand. The New South Wales Cabinet on Monday decided on Mrs. Mort’s release. For three years past there had been an agitation for this action. The case caused a great sensation in social circles years ago. Dr. Tozer was Mrs. Mort’s medical attendant, and also, it was said, her lover. Mrs. Mort was highly strung and neurotic. On December 21, 1920, Dr. Tozer’s body with bullet wounds in the head and chest was found on the couch in the dining-room at Mrs. Mort’s house. It was revealed that the doctor had informed his patient that he had decided to marry another woman. Mrs. Mort was found not guilty on the grounds of insanity and ordered to be detained in a mental institution.
