OTAGO VARSITY’S CRICKET CLUB

Otago University is the latest “closed” club to be formed and entered for cricket competition matches in Dunedin. While there are doubtless plenty of cricketers among the students, past and present, no great benefit will accrue to cricket in Dunedin by the entrance of this new club, says a Southern Exchange. Already members of other clubs have been approached to “join up with the Blues,*’ and as there is always a certain glamour about being a member of a ’Varsity team, the response is more than likely to be satisfactory to the new club but highly unsatisfactory to the established clubs. The newcomers have already hitched their wagon to a star by applying for admission to the first grade. But it is unlikely that they will be accepted forthwith.
