FIRE IN FLAXMILL

PLANT AND STOCK BURNED Press Association NAPIER, Thursday. Fire destroyed the scutching shed at the Awatere flax mill. Wairoa at 7.30 a.m. today. The contents, incliab ins a hydraulic press, a screw pres, two motors, 25 bales of fibre, 25 bales of tow and a quantity of unscutched flax, was also destroyed. The mill i, the property of Flaxmills, Llmtted. Foxton. The origin of the fire is not known. The men were at work, when thev suddenly noticed smoke issuing frori a tow bale, which very soon burs' into flames that quickly enveloped the building. A bucket brigade was the only means available for fire-fighting, but all efforts proved useless. The rebuilding of the structure will proceed immediately. In the meantime only a few hands will be without work.
