Titchener contended the, the proposals with regard to transport were highly dangerous. He moved that consideration of the matter be deferred pending the amalgamation conference at which all four boroughs would nr,, bably be represented. pn> ' The Mayor; “The proposal necessitates legislation, and there is no chance of that this session.” The motion to defer was carried. Regarding the overtures from Takapuna concerning amalgamation of the four North Shore boroughs, both Northcote and Birkenhead advised that they were agreeable to the suggested conference. Devonport stating that the matter had been referred to a com! mittee. The Mayor was authorised to call the conference without undue delay. The borough's solicitor advised that the order-in-council revoking the deed of delegation held by the defunct Takapuna Tramway Co.. Ltd., had been gazetted. The document surrendering the deed was enclosed for execution, but the Mayor pointed out that the solicitor had not certified that it was a proper document for the council to execute; accordingly it was held over pending certification. Overtures to the Prime Minister that unemployed workers in the borough should be found work near at hand elicited the reply that the Government could offer no such relief work in the vicinity of Takapuna. Sir Joseph Ward added that unemployed workers should register at the Takapuna Post Office, and that such registrations would bo equally effective as those made at the city bureau. Some further complaints with regard to the alleged destructor smoke nuisance were investigated. These were referred to a meeting of the joint control committee to be held next Monday. The Mayor stated that independent expert advice would probably be sought concerning the complaints of imperfect combustion. Smith’s Bush, a block of about 2a acres situated toward Northcote, is again to be a subject of negotiation between the- council and the Government. It was decided that the Minister of Lands be asked to put a sum upon the Supplementary Estimates for the acquisition of the block as a scenie reserve.
It was decided that a further instalment of £IB,OOO on account of tho £119,000 sewerage loan is to be raised. The draft by-law relating to the use of trollies was approved and will be submitted for confirmation in the usual
