NO FARE PAID
TRAM PASSENGER’S HARD-UP PLEA
The excuse that he was hard-up was advanced by a passenger whom a tramway inspector caught evading payment of his fare, according to Mr. R. H. Mackay, who appeared for the Transport Board at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. T. H. Glover pleaded guilty to evading payment of his fare on an Fdendale tram, and was ordered by Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., to pay costs.
C. Warman, who did not appear, was charged with using an all-day ticket when it was not available. Counsel remarked that he had been naught travelling on one of the special tickets supplied to women passengers. Of C. Westwood, who was similarly charged, Mr. Mackay said that he had been up previously on a similar charge. Mr. Clarke, who entered a plea of guilty, pointed out that the offences had been committed about the same time, and Westwood was . jjfdered to pay costs.
