COUNCIL CRITICISED
INDIGNANT RATEPAYERS AUTHORISATION OF LOAN A meeting of the Hobsonville Ratepayers’ Association was held in the Hobsonville Hall on Tuesday evening. There was a fair attendance. In the absence of the president, Mr. R. Ockleston, Mr. J. B. Allen, vice-president, presided. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. R. Ockleston; vice-pre-sident, Mr. J. B. Allen; secretary, Mr. W. Shaw; committee. Messrs. Svenson, Parry, Sinton and Smithies. Mr. Glasgow, member for the Waitakere Riding, addressed those present regarding the £IO,OOO loan authorised by the Waitemata County Council. Great indignation was expressed by several ratepayers at the action of the council in forcing this loan on the ratepayers after its defeat at the polls.
It was unanimously decided to support Mr. Glasgow in his efforts to prevent . the council enforcing its proposals, and a guarantee was agreed to by those present to fight the matter out in the Supreme Court if necessary. It was also decided to support Mr. Glasgow by a deputation to the council at its meeting on Friday. Indignation was expressed at the way the ratepayers’ money had been expended and criticism of the method of working on the unimportant road from Taupaki to Brigham’s Creek was freely expressed. The meeting passed a resolution of thanks and confidence in Mr. Glasgow, and pledged itself to support him. ■
