FOR CEMENT FLOORS
j Maybe the floor of your verandah j or loggia is of cement, which is apt . to dust up, with the consequence that , | the white substance is constantly ! being trodden into the house. Water and scrubbing will not remedy matters; indeed, it seems to make them : worse. The best way to effect an im- • provement is to give the floor a thorough treatment with linseed oil. ■ Rub this well in, and then follow up , with, a wax floor polish. This will . make the floor altogether smoother and quite prevent dusting up. From time - to time, as necessary, the floor may ; then be scrubbed in the ordinary way and repolished with floor polish. i | The best protection against a . ; window being opened from outside is ’ a sash screw. These screws are j about two inches long and are made of brass, with a fiat knob of convenient shape. They cost about sixpence. including two little plates, and are simply screwed into the window , frame when it is desired to fasten it > securely.
