French Invasion In the Cesarcwitch. the 21 miles handicap to be run at Newmarket | (England) today. there were 24! French-trained horses entered, this! representing nearly 20 per cent, of the ■ nominations. In the Cambridgeshire. ; run today fortnight, the French repre- \ i sentation is even more pronounced. 2S I i from across the Channel being acI corded a. nomination, or nearly 25 per ! cent. Will there be another Epinaixl i among them? To Ride Schorr i The Auckland horseman. E. Stan- : way, left for Bulls last evening to J pilot the former Auckland horse i Schorr, in his schooling essays, prior I to riding him in his engagement at the Waverley meeting on Lnhour Bay. Schorr is trained by A. Neale, who I was successful with Elysianor in the j hurdles on the second day of the recent A.R.C. meeting. Light Treatment W. Kemp has not asked Gold Money j to do anything on the tracks since she i raced on the opening day at Ellerslie j I recently, and it is expected that the mare will be all the better for this treatment when she is again preparing Cor an engagement. The two-year-old half-brother to Gold Money. Ruling | King, has been on the easy list since the Avondale meeting last month, but he will shortly make a return to El'erslie. Not Being Hurried Not much in the way of galloping is being required from Lusoma, an inmate of W. Gall’s stable, and .she is being allowed plenty of time. Although ;> four-year-old, LuoOma was not introduced to the race-track until last winter, and with only a few weeks’ preparation she ran prominently in her r.nly engagement to date, a hack event ! at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting at j Ellerslie last August. Her teeth have occasioned some trouble lately, but once over this affliction the older fullsister to Grand Spirit should show rapid progress. She is a nice big ' mare, and a typical Lucullus. Shaping Well K. Heaton is handling a maiden at j Ellerslie that gives every indication of coming good. She is a daughter of ! T-Jyllus and Gleaner, and has had the i name of Operatic bestowed on her. j | Accompanied by Some Eady yesterday I i morning she ran six furlongs in credit- I ■ able time, and was with her companion j at the end, an effort that shows she fs well endowed with speed, for Some Eady has at times raced conspicuously I |in hack company. Operatic, has yet | j to sport silk, but when her time comes I i she may be depended on to acquit herI seif attractively.
For Cambridge Ponjola is bowling along in fine style at Hastings in his preparation for the Waikato Hunt Club Cup, which will be decided on Eabour Day. East 1 season the now defunct Hollycomb, j who came up from Hastings, was second. Coming to Hand The day does not seem far distant i when Mountain Jleath will be found • among the winners, his essay at Napier Park being very impressive. Last season Mountain Heath showed out fairly well, as a couple of wins, the same number of seconds, and three thirds, were placed to his credit. He looks a much-improved horse this season, having lost that nervousness that was so apparent in him previously. Not as Good as Thought? The Ellerslie owner-trainer. 11. Rama, contemplates a trip to Gisborne next week in order that he may race Taneriri at the .Poverty Bay meeting there. His representative is just the sort that should do well for his connections. Taneriri attained a remarkably good reputation when he filled the role of runner-up to Paddon in the Whyte Memorial Handicap at the last Trentliam meeting, but failures since then have taken some of the glamour off him. and his party are sure to get a fair price in the event of him winning. We have not seen the best of Taneriri, and when the fullbrother to Iloariri docs eventually strike form he will win more than one race. Chief Ruler's Derby Winner Hot Springs, winner of the South ; Australian Derby, did some racing in the Dominion last season, but failed to give the judge a job to hoist his number in the winner’s groove. IT is best production was the gaining of second berth to Hunting Boy in the Cloverlea Nursery Handicap at the autumn meeting of the Manawatu Racing Club. He also finished in third positions in a couple of his efforts. He is the property of the Adelaide owner, Mr. E. E. Jolly, who gave 500 guineas for him as a yearling. He .was foaled by Tinkler to Chief Ruler, and is therefore a half-brother to Mountain Top and Mountain Bell, a couple’ of well-known performers in the Dominion of not very high grade. Mountain Bell would have been a really good performer had she kept sound.
