NEW LYNN BOROUGH COUNCIL
The New Lynn Borough Council met on Monday evening, the Mayor, Mr. C. F. Gardner, presiding. The sanitary inspector reported that the general sanitary conditions of the borough was satisfactory. An application for remission of rates on a recreation ground was made by the New Lynn Rugby Football Club. It was agreed to remit half the rates due, it being pointed out that the club would have been entitled to a revaluation of the property had it taken action, and that it was customary for the Valuation Department to rate grounds used exclusively for sports at half the usual rates. In connection with the raising of £7,300 supplementary to the drainage loan, formal resolutions were passed approving the signing of debentures. The Mayor was appointed to represent the local bodies in the northern suburbs in Wellington to give evidence in connection with the Transport Bill. The council agreed to adopt as a policy the principle that where reasonable quantities of spoil were requested by ratepayers for' improvement of private property levels, permission to remove the spoil from banks on the roadside should be granted, after reference to the foreman of works, and conditional upon the removal operations being neatly carried out.
