THAMES VALLEY DRAINAGE

AMALGAMATION OPPOSED From Our Own Correspondent JIOERINSVILLE, Tuesday. .The Elstow Drainage Board has decided, to object to the petition being prepared by the Waitoa Board asking for the amalgamation of the ITungahunga, Elstow, Tahuna and Waitoa Drainage Boards. The Elstow Board’s objection is based on the fact that the amalgamation of the four boards would still leave two boards out and also a great amount of land which did not come under tlie jurisdiction of any board. Unless the whole of the watershed was included in the amalgamation, the control of tlie Piako River and its tributaries would not be effective. The amalgamation of drainage boards of the district was suggested by the Minister of Lands on a visit some three months ago. He intimated that further Government assistance would not be forthcoming unless this course were ado? ■;■ d.
