MINING NEWS alburn I A.—The manager reports: The drive north on the main Orlando lode fron» crosscut at winze has been extended four feet, a total of 214 feet. The reef here averages 38 Inches wide, but still split up and mixed with mullock. The rise on the cross leader from the drive north on the hangingwall branch the Orlando lode has been risen four feet, a total of 21 feet. The leader here averages eight inches wide, and still carries nice bright mineral blend, in by silver, and silica. Strong colours. **f gold are still seen in the ore. In the ' Whau level the drive hlllward from our | rise, on Sons of Freedom reef, has been cleaned for a total distance of 50 feet. At this point we holed into the crosscut from Sons of Freedom reef to Dixon’s reef, but found the crosscut all broken down and full of mullock and old tim- ' bet*. I have stopped work here, and will start next week to continue driving hill ward on the footwall dropper off Sons > of Freedom reef.

The market was very firm, and competition was keen, with a widening demand for faulty descriptions. Greasy Merino sold to 19£d. It is reported that the Melbourne sales showed a 5 per cent, increase in rates.
