BLIZZARD RELENTS
BAY OF WHALES PARTY SEES SKY AGAIN . By RUSSELL OWEN Copyrighted, 19ZS, by the "New York Times” company and the St. Louis “PostDispatch.” All rights for publication reserved throughout the world. Wireless to the “New York Times.” BAY OF WHALES, Sunday. After the blizzard which covered our camp with a snowdrift all yesterday and the day before, the weather today shows signs of relenting. The sky is clear and the temperature is slowly rising. It was 45 degrees below zero. last night, but only 30 below at breakfast time today. Only the low temperature has been delaying the start of the dog teams southward. Severe weather would wear out the dogs quickly. Commander Byrd recalls that Amundsen after his first start in the spring was forced to return, and did not get away until October 19. This spring it is even colder than in the year he was here.
