ELSIE WALKER CASE
ENDEAVOUR TO RE-OPEN INQUEST PUBLIC MEETING CALLED Another attempt to have the Elsie Walker inquest re-opened is to be made. The New Zealand Society for the Protection of Women and Children, feeling keenly the disadvantage of Legislation which does not permit the reopening of Inquests, has decided to hold a general meeting in the Town Hall Concert Chamber next Monday evening for the purpose of urging the public to appeal for amended legislation which will make it possible to have re-opened the Elsie Walker inquest. It was announced by the society this morning that the meeting would be open to the public and kindred societies have in particular been asked to co-operate. Representations have been made to the Minister of Justice and these are being given careful consideration. It is the society’s chief endeavour to have the legislation amended at the present sitting of Parliament, in order that an appeal may be made to have the Elsie Walker inquest reopened immediately.
