HORTICULTURE DIPLOMAS
GRANTS MADE BY BOARD A further seven horticulturists in the Auckland Province, who have, among other conditions, had 20 years’ experience in their calling, were' granted diplomas at tlie last meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture. The following are the successful applicants for diplomas:—Mr. T. W. Baker, of Kaitaia, Mr. E. A. Herd, Onehunga, Mr. K. R. Macdonald, Whangarei, Mr. S. Wilcher, Mr. D. Smith, Mr. J. W. Emslie, and Miss E. F. Kibblewhite, of Auckland. It is worthy of note that this is the first occasion on which this diploma has granted to any woman in New Zealand. Under an empowering Act passed in 1927 the Examining Board of the institute lias power to grant diplomas to those qualified under certain regulations. Provision was made for tlie granting of diplomas without examination to all applicants of 20 years’ experience who were more than 40 years of age, and under this clause about 120 have been granted. The period laid down by the Act in respect of applicants more than 40 years of ago will expire on Monday, October
