POWER BOARD COMPENSATES FOR DISMISSALS
PERMANENT STAFF BENEFITS Those men who will have to be dismissed from the King’s Wharf station owing to the supply of power from Arapuni, will be paid one week’s wages for every year of service with the Power Board up to a maximum of 12. The concession applies only to old permanent hands. This was reported at yesterday’s meeting, of the Auckland ElectricPower Board. Mr. W. J. Holdsworth presided. It was stated by the general manager, Mr. R. H. Bartley, that as many men as possible would be absorbed into other departments on a temporary basis, and a number would be employed in the laying of the 22,000volt cable. The board decided to contribute £IOO to the funds of the employees’ social and recreation club, provided that the club agreed to accept a representative of the board as a member of its committee. The chairman was appointed to act in this capacity.
The board-in-committee reported that the general manager had been instructed to proceed with the preparation of plans for a hew office building at Papatoetoe.
