PERSONAL. —Mi'. T. Stevenson has been appointed third officer of the vV aikawa, relieving’ Mr. L. L. Clark. Mr. H. Marks is now fourth engineer of the Waikawa. CUMBERLAND AT LONDON. —The Mew Zealand Shipping Company has been advised by cablegram that the Federal steamer Cumberland arrived at London on Wednesday from Auckland, en route to West Coast ports of Great Britain. The vessel left Auckland on August 31. GABRIELLA SAILING.—The Lamb steamer Gabriella is to sail for Mapier and Greymouth this afternoon to complete unloading hardwood from Australia. The vessel loaded a quantity of timber s.t Auckland, and she will fill up with timber for Australia at Greymouth. CARGO FROM AUSTRALIA. —The Union Company reports that the Kaikorai was to leave Edithburg yesterday for Wallaroo, Adelaide and Melbourne to complete loading for Auckland, Portland, Mew Plymouth, Castlecliff, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin. She is expected to clear Melbourne on October 22. OTOKIA FOR OVERHAUL. Mow undergoing overhaul and survey at Wellington, the Union Company’s tanker Otokia is expected to finish next Wednesday, when she will leave there for San Luis, California, to load another cargo of fuel oil for the company's tanks at Miramar. NEW MOTOR-SHIPS ON ORDER.— The three new vessels which are to be construcetd for the Mew Zealand Shipping Company will be twin-screw motor-ships of 9,000 tons. One vessel will be fitted with Vickers M.A.M., single-acting, twostroke engines, another will have Sulzer engines, and the third Doxford engines. TOFU A CLEARS SUVA.—In continuation of her voyage from Auckland, the Union Company’s Island passenger steamer Tofua left Suva, according tu cable advice received, at 4.30 p.m. yesterday for Tonga and Samoa. The vessel is expected to return to Auckland on October 2S. ULIMAROA LEAVES SYDN EY.—Cable advice received by the local office of Hud-dart-Parker, Ltd., states that the intercolonial passenger steamer Uliniaroa left Sydney at midday yesterday for Wellington, where she is due next Tuesday morning. The Ulimaroa is the only passenger steamer from Sydney to arrive at New Zealand ports next w r eek. PORT MELBOURNE DUE WEDNESDAY.—Advice received by the Farmers’ Co-op. Auctioneering Company states thp.t the C. and 13. Line’s steamer Port Melbourne is to leave Mew Plymouth on Monday evening for Auckland, where she is due next Wednesday to continue her loading. From this port the vessed proceeds to Gisborne, Mapier and Wellington to fill up and is scheduled to clear the latter port finally - on October 22 for London via the Cape Horn route.
DR EDGE HAPAI TO UNDOCK.—The Auckland Harbour Board’s dredge Hapai, which has been in Calliope Dock for some time undergoing her annual overhaul and survey, is to undock on Monday afternoon and berths at Prince’s Wharf to continue overhauling. THE CANADIAN HIGHLANDER.— Cabled news has been received by the Canadian National Steamships that the Canadian Highlander left Panama last Saturday for New York, Boston, and Montreal, in continuation of her voyage from Auckland. The vessel left Auckland on September 6. CITY OF DALHART EN ROUTE.— Dalgety and Co. has been notified by cablegram that the City of Dalhart left New York last Monday evening for Wellington direct. She is due there on November 5, and after putting out part of her general cargo will proceed on to Australia. TREDINNICK FROM NEW YORK.— Due at Auckland noon on Monday from New York, the A. and A. Line’s chartered steamer Tredinnick will berth at the Queen’s Wharf to land the local portion of her cargo under the agency of the New Zealand Shipping Company. Later the vessel* will proceed to Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin to complete discharge. TAMAROA AT LYTTELTON.—Advice received by A. S. Paterson and Companystates that the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s liner Tamaroa arrived at Lyttelton at 2.25 p.m. yesterday from Auckland, and leaves again on Tuesday for Napier and Auckland. She is due back here next Saturday, and after loading here sails on October 24 for Wellington, where she fills up and finally departs on October 30 for Southampton and London, vfa Panama. CALLANDIA EXPECTED. —A berth has been allotted at Western Wharf for the steamer Callandia, which is expected from Port Arthur, Texas, and Los Angeles at an early date, but she had not reported by wireless yet. The vessel is under charter to the Texas Oil Company and her case oil and other petroleum cargo is for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, and Australian ports. A. G. Frankham, Limited, will act as the local agent. NAUTICAL ALMANAC PUBLISHED. —The Secretary of the Marine Department advises that the New Zealand Nautical Almanac and Tidetables for the year 1930, compiled at the Nautical Adviser’s Office, Marine Department, will be published at Wellington on November 1, 1929, immediately following: which the book will be purchasable from Government Shipping Offices throughout New Zealand and from the Marine Department at Wellington.
