TENN’S TOURNAMENT
WANGANUI MAY GET NORTH ISLAND COMPETITIONS MATCHES IN JANUARY (From Our Own Correspondent) WANGANUI, Today. At the Wanganui Tennis Association’s meeting last evening the possibilities of the North Island tournament being held at Wanganui were discussed. Wanganui was the only association to have an application in at the stipulated time, though Taranaki applied later. It is confidently expected that the championships will be held in Wanganui on January 1,2, 3 and 4. Since the New Zealand championships must be held not before the second week in January, Dominion cracks are expected to attend the North Island tourney for practice.
PIAKO ASSOCIATION From Our Own Correspondent PIAKO, Friday. At the annuul meeting of the Piuko Tennis* Association, the balanco sheet showed a credit balance of £6 18s 2d. The election of officers resulted as follow:—Patron, Mr. F. W. Walters; president, Mr. R. D. Johnstone; vice presidents, Messrs. C. Johansen, J. Lynch. A. Crowe and S. Carter; horn secretary, Mr. D. I*. Malcolm; management committee, Messrs. Wratt, Hart, Johnston, Hyde, Candy, Davis Wagstaff, Watson, Saxton and Malcolm. At a subsequent meeting of the management committee it was decided to commence the inter-club competitions on October 19 and that in the event of a match being etarted. but not able to be finished, the match will be commenced again. FIRST ROUND DRAW The draw for the first round will b© 1 ;:follows: October 3 9. —Tatuanui v. Te Puninga. at Tatuanui; Waitoa v. Ngarua, at Waitoa; Springdale, a bye. October 26. —Waitoa *v. Te Puninga, at Te Puninga: Tatuanui v. Springdale, at Tatuanui; Ngarua. a bye. November 2. —Ngarua v. Springdale, at Ngarua; Waitoa v. Tatuanui, at Waitoa; Tatuanui. a bye. November 16.—Ngarua v. Tatuanui, at Ngarua; Springdale v. Te Puninga at Springdale; Waitoa, a bye. MORRINSVILLE CLUB From Our Ou;n Correspondent MORRINSVILLE, Friday. At “a meeting of the Morrinsville Tennis Club it was decided to hold the official opening on Saturday October 19, when a Yankee tournament will be held. • A suggestion was put forward that it might be advantageous if a subunion were formed. To this end it j was decided to write to the Kiwitahi, i Starkey Road, Tahuna, Hoe-a-tanui. I Tauhei, and Te Puninga Clubs, asking j their view’s, and if they were favour- • able to a meeting being held.
