ASHBURTON OBJECTS TASMANIAN TOURISTS Press Awociofion ASHBURTON, Friday. | A lively discussion took place at a ! meeting of the Mid-Canterbury Executive of tlie Farmers’ Union over the ■ fact that the Tasmanian farmers are scheduled to spend only Sunday in ' this district. It is suggested that the j visitors inspect the Government ex- j perimental farm in the morning and j motor through the county in the i afternoon. Objection was raised to Sunday trips, a motion of protest being moved and seconded. Mr. Hammond; You may as well protest against trips to Otira on Sundays. Evans: No. This is our busi- j ness. Tlie Otira trip had nothing to j do with us. Mr. H. Brown: You should take this in committee. Eighty per cent, of the people of Canterbury do not observe Sunday. Voices: Hardly that. Mr. H. C. B. Withell said the feelings of the visitors had not been taken into account. Mr. Bpown: There is no other place in New Zealand where they would kick up such a fuss. Finally the following motion was carried: —“The executive regrets that the visit of the Tasmanian farmers is limited to Sunday only, and considers the following Monday should have been included in the time allocated for the stay in Ashburton.
