IMPROVEMENTS TO DIOCESAN INSTITUTION GREATER INCOME NEEDED Alterations to the Diocesan High School for Girls, including the provision of extra classroom space and the construction of a swimming bath at a cost of £ 8,500. are mentioned in the annual report of the School Council, which was presented to synod yesterday by the chairman, Mr. C. J. Tunks. Six new hard tennis courts are completed, the report states, and much has been done with the planting of suitable trees and shrubs in the grounds. The alterations to the school buildings will include a new science loom, which is needed to comply with the requirements of the Education Department, and also tlie completion of the playing fields and the provision of a swimming bath. When these works are completed it will be possible to carry on the school, even with the increased numbers which the council hopes will be attracted, without further building, and to provide all necessary playing areas within the school grounds for some years to come. The interest and other charges on the cost of providing the necessary additions and improvements could not be met out of the revenue from the existing school fees, and the council has with reluctance been obliged to notify parents of an increase in fees place from the beginning of
