FRANKTON STATION
CHANGE OF NAME PROPOSAL MR. STERLING APPROACHED From Our Oyon Correspondent HAMILTON, Today. Champions of the scheme to chancre the name of Frankton railway station and its opponents presented their respective cases to Mr. H. H. Sterling. General Manager, New Zealand Railways. at a conference at Hamilton this morning. The opponents to the suggestion claimed t orepresent 3,300 Frankton citizens, who had signed a counterpetition. The suggestion that the present Hamilton station should be abolished found favour from someone of both sides.
Those who urged the alteration included Mr. J. R. Fow, Mayor, representing the Borough Council. Mr. F. H. Clapham, Chamber of Commerce, Mr. D. A. Sellar, Retailers’ Association, and Mr. J. S. Anchor, Frankton Ratepayers’ Association.
The opposition was led b3' Messrs. F. B. J oily and J. G. Harp. Replying, Mr. Sterling said it was impossible to have one station on a branch line and one on the main line both named Hamilton. TJuntil a distinctive and acceptable name could be found for the present Hamilton station he would not authorise any change. He would endeavour to find a solution, but if none was found things would have to remain as they are. He hoped the time would come when there would be one station for the whole of Hamilton.
