In the Market Place

ORANGES SELL WELL STRAWBERRIES APPEARING Oranges from the Islands continue to sell well in the City Marts, although there has been a slight evening of prices. Californian oranges are bringing high rates. Apples and pears have not changed in value and the demand remains fair. Occasional lots of early strawberries are making their appearance. Several boxes were sold today at high prices. The Australian citrus fruits brought to Auckland this week were cleared at satisfactory values. Cauliflowers are now heavily supplied in the vegetable auction. Celery has dropped in value because of poor quality. Green peas are coming forward in fair quantities. Brisk competition existed in the poultry market, except for ducks and stags, which are glutting the market. Cockerels were scarce and commanded high values. Hens did not change in price. Cock chicks are coming forward in large numbers and are selling at medium rates.
