CHILDREN AND BOOKS

LOWER LIBRARY RATES TO ENCOURAGE READING In order to encourage reading among boys and girls, it has been decided t-« reduce the subscription rate l'or the children’s department at the central library and all branch libraries. The subscription was :»s a year. From Thursday, to the children of city ratepayers or residents, it will bo half-a-crown. The old rate will hold good for all other children. The Auckland libraries are well supplied with juvenile literature, there "being some S.OOO volumes in the various libraries. The new rates should induce a greater use of the facilities provided for the younger generation, than has been the case in tae past.
