LIME FOR SETTLERS
REJUVENATING KING COUNTRY GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE From Our Oun Correspondent TE KUITI, Thursday A representative meeting of settlers in the Waitanguru, Mairoa and paenga districts was held at Mairoa* when the Director-General of the cultural Department, Dr. A. H. Cock ayne, outlined the scheme which ha been sanctioned by the Government to provide cheap supplies of lime. Dr. Cockayne said that Cabinet h* authorised an expenditure to secur® 1,000 tons of crushed lime over a P er * ? of three years. The lime would be aval ‘ able for both Crown and freeho setters. Arrangements w r ere made to have the lime crushed locally* thus lessening the cost, and it was e* pected that settlers outside the dis tricts mentioned would be able to a'a 1 themselves f the opportunity to secure lime on the lowest possible basifc which would be in the vicinity of 1 a ton. Ways and means by which would be enabled to supplement lime with phosphate supplies were * cussed at length. It was felt that • speedy effect could only be obtained top-dressing with both lime and P lloS phatic manures. _ Messrs. < *. M. Wright and J.
