STOWAWAYS ON TAIROA
COULD NOT GET WORK IN * LIVERPOOL
Two stowaways were found hiding in the bunkers of the steamer Tairoa. which arrived from Liverpool last night, when she was 36 hours out from that port. They were handed over to the police this morning. Both belong to Liverpool and are young men, being only 20 and 22 years of age. They sa : d that they have not had a steady job in Liver pool for the past uve years, and so made a bid for New Zealand, hoping for better * things here. The Tairoa was just off Fast net Light at the South of Ireland when the stowaways were discovered. They were put to general work on the boat throughout the voyage, working on deck, below, and in the galley. Officers say that their conduct was good. The stowaways, John Power and John Rice, will appear at the Police Court.
