BIRKENHEAD CARNIVAL
FIRE-ENGINE OFFERED The central committee of the Birkenhead Queen Carnival. which is raising funds for a firf brigade, held its fortnightly meeting in tl>e Coumcil Chambers, Birkenhead, last evening, Mr. J. Batty presiding. The organiser reported that the Borough Council had received an offer of an up-to-date fire engine and had referred the question to the Queen Committe. This engine is’ the same model as that used by the Mount Roskill Fire Brigade. It was imported from England for the Hutt Borough Council, but the ratepayers there having turned the loan down. it was offered to the council at a reduced price. It was decided to inspect the Mount Koskill engine cn Tuesday evening next, when n demonstration will be given by the brigade. It was decided to approach the Auckland Underwriters’ Association for a donation toward the brigade. A resolution was also passed that the flags on the council chambers, which indicate the positions of the queens, should be changed daily instead of twice a week after October 20.
